Greek Islands (Corfu)
SAILING CHARTERS IN CORFU,
GREECE
For those seeking an interest and activity holiday in
the Ionian Islands, a Sailing Charter may offer just
what you're looking for. It is a sailing holiday in
which you set the course and pace. Once at sea on board
Overdraft II, you have freedom of the Ionian Islands. No
experience is necessary as the skipper will involve you
as much or as little as you wish with boat handling and
navigation. However, if you want to learn to sail, we
can help you do that also.
Sailing in the Ionian
 Rising out of clean and
clear waters, the Ionian Islands feature countless
villages nestled on the slopes of hills clad in olive
and cypress trees. High rainfall in winter ensures that
the island hillsides remain green all year round. The
entire region is replete with history and charm, and is
most pleasantly viewed from the comfort and ease of your
own boat.
During spring and autumn the temperature in the
Ionian is similar to a summer’s day in Northern Europe.
In mid-summer it gets much warmer, but steady sea
breezes ensure comfort. The sea is warm enough to swim
from May through October.
The prevailing winds are north-westerly, but vary
from island to island, and even from bay to bay due to
the local topography. Winds are usually gentle in the
Ionian and rarely reach Force 5 or 6, giving more
experienced sailors a chance to put the yacht through
her paces, while the less adventurous relax in one of
the many small harbours of anchorages.
A typical day: Anchor in a small bay and dive into
the clear, turquoise waters. Sunbathe on a smooth, sandy
beach. Dine with friends on local cuisine and homemade
wine in one of the many traditional Greek tavernas and
plan your next days cruise. The Ionian sailing
experience is one not to be missed, and provides a
splendid holiday for friends and families, and for young
and old alike. Enjoy a cycle ride on the boat's mountain
bikes. Potter about in the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB)
for a little fishing and play. (Watch those knives and
hooks!)
Sailing aboard the Snowgoose
The Snowgoose catamaran is a well-known,
well-established design in the yachting industry and has
had considerable experience in worldwide competitive and
leisure sailing with many circumnavigations to its
credit. The boat has a 100% safety record, and, as she
sails flat, is particularly safe for families.

The interior is spacious and designed to be flexible, in
order to accommodate the needs of the crew. There are
also two further berths suitable for small adults or
children. There is also generous deck space both fore
and aft and a roomy cockpit, to which all sail and
engine controls are fitted for ease of handling.
For the numerically minded, the catamaran has an
overall deck and coach-roof area of 525 square feet, and
is cutter-rigged with an overall sail area of 575 square
feet. Conventional navigational techniques are
supplemented by a GPS Satellite Navigational System.

The Skipper - Alan Robertson
The Skipper of Overdraft II learned to sail in the
Irish and North Seas, in the northeast of England and
southeast and southwest of Scotland and Holland, where
the sailing is demanding, and where he obtained his
Ocean Yacht Master's Certificate.
Sailing for over twenty years, Alan fitted out
Overdraft II to provide a comfortable, live-aboard boat.
Once chief electrical engineer for a major shipping
company, he has all the necessary expertise in the
mechanical and electrical systems of yachts to ensure a
smooth journey, free of technical problems.
Skipper Alan has resided on Corfu for the past 15
years, and he is well acquainted with the Ionian region,
its bays, harbours and anchorages, as well as the best
tavernas, beaches, and shops in each village. A true
veteran of Ionian sailing adventures, Alan (aka 'Redbeard')
spins a good sailing yarn as well.
